Dr Martyn Cox grew up in Devizes and attended Devizes School before studying for an Honours Degree in Cell Biology and Immunology at Plymouth University. His PhD thesis at Bristol University covered research into the molecular biology of virus infections and human oral cancer. Martyn has been awarded numerous research prizes in the UK and has published widely in both the UK and international peer reviewed journals including several oral cancer textbooks and has lectured on oral cancer and human papilloma virus genetics both in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Martyn then undertook his BDS dental degree at Bristol University. After qualifying as a Dental Surgeon from Bristol University in 1991, Martyn relocated to Devizes establishing Ferndale Dental and Implant Clinic.
Martyn leads the clinical team at Ferndale and over the past 26 years has developed a specialist interest in the fields of oral surgery, cosmetic and implant dentistry with a focus on CT guided 3D `key hole’ implant surgery. Martyn has carried our surgical placements in IV sedation and oral surgery at RAF Wroughton, Royal United Hospital Bath and is currently an Honorary Oral Surgeon at Solihull Hospital, Birmingham.
Martyn has been placing and restoring dental implants since 2000 and has trained in advanced dental implant techniques (including guided bone regeneration and sinus lift techniques) in the USA, Europe and Harley Street, London. He is currently an implant mentor/teacher for both Bredent, Bicon and Implantium implant systems having placed and restored in excess of 2500 implants with a 99% success rate. Martyn is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (England), the International Team for Implantology and lectures at the Royal College Oral Surgery course and sits on the editorial board of Special Care in Dentistry.
Dr Martyn Cox believes strongly in developing a personal relationship with his own patients and since all advanced implant and cosmetic treatments are carried out in house, his patients receive the ultimate in co-ordinated dental treatments resulting in long lasting, safe treatment options.

Doina Vulcu was born in Romania and grew up in the Transylvania region well known for the scenic beauty of its Carpathian landscape and its rich history. She attended University of Targu Mures, Romania, where she received her DMD degree in 1995. Doina received the Specialist in Orthodontics Degree in 2001 from Faculty of Dentistry Timisoara, Romania.She established a private orthodontic practice where she worked for 8 years.
Doina entered the Orthodontics Specialist List UK in 2010 and since 2011 she has been working at The Crescent Specialist Dental Centre Plymouth. She completed numerous hours of postgraduate courses in Orthodontics and one of her favourite topics is the low friction system (Damon). Recent training has increased her range of treatment options to include Incognito ™ lingual braces (placed behind the teeth) and Invisalign.
When she is not practicing her passion of orthodontics she spends most of his time with her husband and two children. She loves swimming, reading and gardening.

Dora came to the UK to study Science at the University of Bristol. Looking for a challenging, hands-on career she moved to Plymouth to complete her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Peninsula Dental School in 2011. Her restorative skills shone through and she won the Undergraduate prize for crown and bridge: this continues to be an area of keen interest.
Dora has been with Portman group since 2016 and her passion lies in providing minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry, enhancing smiles additively without damage. Not only is Dora interested in making smiles beautiful, Dora has furthered her training to provide facial aesthetics through anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. Providing Facial aesthetic treatments complement Dora’s skills and knowledge as a dentist. Dora believes nobody is too old to improve the way they look if they wish. A natural smile and more youthful appearance improve anyone’s confidence which can transform people’s lives.
People often think invasive treatments are always necessary to improve their smile but it is often not the case. Dora’s keen interests is transforming smiles and straightening teeth without the need for conventional wire braces through Invisalign treatment. This is a popular, minimally intrusive way to improve the smile with barely visible aligners.
Further Advanced post graduate training by the Dawson Academy in Functional Smile Design has enabled Dora to achieve predictable aesthetic results through digital modelling and imagery. Allowing her patients to glimpse that ultimate transformation even before it has begun.
Dora’s other main skill is oral surgery, improving her surgical skills gaining a certificate in Minor Oral Surgery department from The Royal College of Surgeons. Then continued to develop her skills further still by gaining her Foundation in Implant Dentistry.
Dora enjoys getting to know her patients and helping them achieve healthy and beautiful smiles. Having gained valuable experience working in several successful dental practices in Cornwall she brings a wealth of experience to Portman and our patients.
Outside of dentistry, Dora enjoys spending time with her horse competing with the local riding club in dressage, showjumping and eventing.

Aneta graduated from the University of Targu Mures, Romania in 1999.
She established a private medical centre where she worked until 2010 before taking up the challenge of practising dentistry in UK. She completed postgraduate courses in implantology and minor oral surgery, gaining membership of International Team of Implantology and Faculty of Dental Dentistry.
Since 2015 Aneta has been offering intravenous sedation for anxious patients as a member of Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia. She is very patient and kind to nervous patients with fear of dental treatments. Aneta has joined us from a busy dental practice where she gained experience in routine dentistry and implants.
In her spare time Aneta enjoys walking, cycling and swimming with her children.

Bhavya began her career as a general practitioner in 2005 and developed a keen interest in Periodontology. This led her to pursue speciality training in periodontology at Sheffield University and was awarded MClinDent in Periodontology. Along with this Bhavya completed advanced restorative training simultaneously, which provided a well rounded knowledge in planning and treatment of complex multi-faceted patients needing treatment of teeth wear, occlusal problems and Implant dentistry. Whilst training, Bhavya continued to work in general outreach clinics providing minor oral surgery care to trauma patients and was a clinical tutor for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Sheffield and Bristol University. In 2012, post completion of training she entered the General Dental Council’s Specialist register as a Periodontist.
Currently she provides private care for patients with complex Periodontal needs in Swindon, Bristol and Oxford areas. Bhavya regularly lectures on various aspects of Periodontal research and treatment and, along with non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapy, also undertaking laser treatment for periodontal problems.
Bhavya has undertaken extensive research related to a novel diode laser for the treatment of periodontal disease in immunocompromised patients. With over 13 years’ experience in dental practice and secondary care she has been fortunate enough to amass a wealth of knowledge for a holistic person-centred approach to treatment for her patients.
She is a member of the British Society of Periodontology, International team for Implantology and European Federation of Periodontology and regularly attend seminars and conventions to upkeep with new evidence-based techniques. In her free time she absolutely loves shopping, socialising with friends and hiking.

Dr Hayley Webb is originally from Devizes and has returned to the town having been working in practices in Dorset and Somerset since qualifying as a dentist.
Hayley studied dentistry as part of the graduate professional entry programme at King’s College, London having previously read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge.
Hayley enjoys all aspects of her profession and practices patient-led, minimally invasive dentistry. She particularly enjoys building confidence in young and anxious patients. Hayley is very passionate about preventative dentistry, educating people in the best ways to care for their teeth and gums. Hayley has previously taken part in outreach projects bringing oral health education to children in inner city schools in London, and also in Peru.
In her spare time, Hayley enjoys baking, horse-riding, and canicross so you might see her running around the countryside with my rescue dog, Inca.

Tannaz was born in Iran and has lived in three different countries before settling down in UK. She graduated from the DOTE Dental School in Hungary and has been practising general dentistry in both surgery and hospital settings. Her main interest is in general dentistry as it offers a wide range of treatments, she is especially passionate about preventive dentistry.
Tannaz believes a major part of prevention is learning about each patients' habits and providing each individual with a tailored dental care plan. She takes her time making trusted relationship with her patients through communication.
In 2013, Tannaz completed an implant course in Cambridge and has done several cases of smile makeovers throughout the last 10 years. She has also been performing facial injections of Botox and fillers since 2016. In the future, she would like to pursue further education in the Dental-legal field.
Outside of work, Tannaz is a keen sports enthusiast and enjoys being outdoors. She also loves to try new food and learn about different cultures and new languages, speaking three languages already and working on learning Spanish.

Phil Wood is one of the hygienists here at Ferndale. He trained in the Army and graduated in 2001 with qualifications in Oral Health promotion, Radiography and Diet and Nutrition in addition to my diploma in Dental Hygiene. Phil has a particular interest in treating nervous patients and helping people with gum (periodontal) disease.
During his time in the Army he worked all over the world but left the Army in 2009 and settled in Wiltshire, moving to Devizes in 2017.
Outside of work he plays golf badly and enjoy entertaining my friends with cooking, scalextrix or flawless dance moves. He also runs a local airsoft (a bit like paintball) site at Yatesbury because you can take the man out of the army but not the army out of the man!

Naho was born and grew up in Japan and after graduating as a dental hygienist from Ogaki Women's College she worked for six years in general and specialist clinics in Japan.
Following completion of an adaptation course at the University of Essex she gained with registration with the General Dental Council. She has joined Ferndale Dental Clinic in 2014.
She has a lot of experience treating nervous and advanced gum diseases patients. Her passion is helping patients prevent gum disease and making sure they have a confident smiles.
Outside work, she is busy with her children and enjoys exploring the English countryside with her dog.

Mel started in Dentistry in 1983 where she joined an excellent Dentist as a hygienist, she very quickly became interested in the preventive side seeing the problems both emotional and physical associated with tooth loss. She took her Dental nurse exams which enabled her to apply for Dental hygiene. Mel was very privileged to be accepted at the EASTMAN DENTAL SCHOOL of excellence in London, a post graduate hospital recognised world wide for its research, and was fortunate to train and work under the supervision of the worlds leading periodontists. Mel qualified from the Eastman in 1989 EDH.
Mel worked in a variety of practices over the years , with the guidance of some excellent oral surgeons and periodontal ( gum) specialists, learning all the time . She's been working at Ferndale since 2010 , where we have a team approach to the patients needs.
Mel is very passionate about her work ,tries to work in an informative, light hearted manor, providing as much information and help her patients as much as she can ,so that they can enjoy the benefits of keeping their teeth longer.
Outside of work Mel exercises with her Spaniel and Jack Russell, has two older children at Uni, and is very artistic. Mel is also a joint junior Devizes young farmer leader, which keeps her busy.
My career in dentistry started in 2001 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire as a trainee dental nurse, and over the years I have expanded my knowledge and experience upon qualification working as a Head Dental Nurse, then progression to dental practice management in 2014.
I hold a degree in Language and Communication which enables great team building skills and service to our patients and colleagues alike, and am experienced in all aspects of people management and business development.
As a CQC Registered Manager I have delivered outstanding results at inspections, and I look forward to the future working alongside this exceptional team.
In my spare time I enjoy live music events and spending time with my two daughters and our two kittens, bearded dragon and rabbit.
Jackie grew up in Devizes and has subsequently raised her family here.
Now Jackie has taken on the role as Patient Care Co-ordinator. This role involves building relationships, working through treatment plans and any concerns that patients may have. She is also able to create financial plans to suit all needs.
Her particular passion is working with anxious patients gaining their confidence to enable the team to create the smile these patients desire.
In her spare time she enjoys walking, cooking and spending time with her growing family.

Emma started her career in dentistry as a dental receptionist in 1994, Emma quickly decided that her passion was for nursing and became a dental nurse in 1996.
Emma took a year and a half out of work to travel around Australia and south East Asia, when she returned in 2005 she joined Ferndale Dental and Implant Clinic. As Head Dental Nurse Emma oversees the day to day running of the nursing team, supporting and mentoring new nurses and ensuring they keep up to date with any relevant training.
Emma is a trained implant nurse, infection control lead and holds her radiography certificate. She is passionate about her role in dentistry and enjoys the relationships she builds with patients. In her spare time, she enjoys running half marathons with her husband and spending time with her daughter, Hollie and her dog, Maggie.

Felicity began her career in Dentistry in 2006 as a trainee dental nurse in her home town of Devizes. In 2009 she obtained her National Certificate in dental nursing passing the National Examining Board for Dental Nurse’s exam with Merit.
Felicity joined the team at Ferndale Dental Clinic in January 2015. As well as general dental nursing at the practice she has attended the SAAD Dental Nurse Course in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry enabling her to assist the clinician with dental treatments involving sedation. In 2016 Felicity passed the BDA dental radiography exam which allows her to take dental radiographs.
In her spare time Felicity enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 daughters.

Gemma started at Ferndale Dental and Implant Clinic in 2008. Gemma joined the team as a receptionist but quickly expressed an interest in the clinical aspect of the practice. Gemma began her dental nurse training and gained her qualification in 2011. Gemma has continued her training and is now qualified to take radiographs. Gemma enjoys all aspects of dentistry but especially enjoys nursing for implant surgery and orthodontics.
In her spare time Gemma loves days out with her Husband, their 1 year old son and dog Coco.

Pushpa qualified as a dental nurse in March 2019. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry but is very keen to further her knowledge by doing post qualifications.

After working in Optics for 4 years, Caroline decided to move to dentistry and started at Ferndale Dental Clinic in June 2015. As Head Receptionist she ensures a smooth running of day to day clinics and welcomes patients into the practice.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, enjoys long walks and eating out.
Lana joined Ferndale in Nov 2017 after extending her maternity leave to enjoy being with her daughter. She has over 6 years experience within dentistry and uses this to support the team. Lana is a calming influence when working on the reception desk and provides a relaxed atmosphere for all of our patients.
Michelle began her career in dentistry as a trainee Dental Nurse after leaving school in 1980. She worked her way up to become a Head Nurse, and then went on to be a Practice Coordinator.
Since relocating to Wiltshire from London, she enjoys the countryside with her husband, family, their two horses, two dogs, as well as spending time with their grandchildren.
Melissa joined the practice in 2011 having spent 23 years working for Wiltshire Police in a variety of roles. Melissa works as our Practice Secretary dealing with all correspondence to our patients from all of our clinicians. She also deals with all of our referrals out of the practice and the sending of clinical notes to patients and other practices. She also covers Reception duties. Out of work Melissa enjoys watching her husband, son and daughter play cricket, walking and holidays
Lyn has been a member of the team since the practice opened. Lyn looks after everyone at Ferndale and keeps all smiling when she arrives at the end of the day. Lyn keeps Ferndale clean and tidy and even does a spot of DIY from time to time! When Lyn is not at the practice she enjoys taking care of her family and grandchildren.
